Contains the active ingredient: Azithromycin 250 mg, which is a type of medicine called a macrolide antibiotic. Azithromycin is used to treat infections caused by bacteria and are used to treat the sexually-transmitted infection chlamydia. This infection is caused by a type of bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis.
Azithromycin works by preventing the Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria from producing proteins that are essential to them. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow, replicate and increase in numbers. Azithromycin therefore stops the spread of infection and remaining bacteria are killed by the body's immune system or eventually die.
What is it used for?
Treatment of confirmed genital chlamydia infection, without symptoms, in people aged 16 years and over and their sexual partners.
