Betnovate Scalp Application

Contains the active ingredient : Betamethasone valerate 0.1 % w/w, which is a type of medicine called a topical corticosteroid.

Corticosteroids are medicines used for reducing inflammation. Inflammation of the skin is caused by the release of various substances produced by the immune system. These substances cause blood vessels to widen, resulting in the irritated area becoming red, swollen, itchy and painful, as is seen in dermatitis or eczema.

When betamethasone is applied to the skin it works by acting inside the skin cells to decrease the release of the inflammatory substances. This reduces swelling, redness and itching.

There is a range of potencies of corticosteroids applied to the skin. Betamethasone valerate 0.1% is classed as a potent corticosteroid. It is prescribed to treat inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis that have not responded to weaker corticosteroids.

Betnovate scalp application is thinner and easier to apply to the scalp than Betnovate ointment or cream. It is used to treat inflammatory disorders of the scalp.

What is it used for ?

Steroid-responsive dermatoses of the scalp such as psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)

Seborrhoeic dermatitis affecting the scalp.

Psoriasis affecting the scalp.

Inflammation associated with severe dandruff.
